Our House

Note – pictures still to come!

The mister and I have lived in our current house for three and a half years now. In that time we’ve made quite a mark on the place. Take a tour of before and after below to see some of the changes we’ve made.

We live in the middle house of a Victorian terrace, built waaaay back in 1897! Interesting factoid; the first owner of our house was actually the man who built the whole terrace, and being a forward thinking and rather clever fella, he moved the boundaries at the back to make our back yard wider than the house to it looks like we’ve “stolen” part of the neighbours garden!

The lounge
The previous owner of our house had somewhat more minimal and contemporary taste to us, so downstairs our lounge, dining room and kitchen are all open-plan and when we moved in it had no “original features” so one of our first jobs was to reinstate the fireplace. Although we decided not to install a functioning fire, it still makes the room much cosier and we can burn candles or light fairy lights for a homely glow if we feel like it.

Dining room
All we’ve really done here is to wallpaper and put it our own furniture. Someday I’d love to replace the bookshelf and dresser with a custom built-in.

Kitchen
We painted it yellow, ’nuff said!

Third bedroom / study
My personal haven and one of my most recent projects, in fact this room has now been decorated twice since we moved in! Finally being able to graduate to matching all-white furniture has given this space a much more uniform appearance.

Guest bedroom
This room also doubles as the misters “war” room. Featuring my first attempt at a simple upholstered headboard. I love the wallpaper in here, the tone on tone texture is so subtle and the cool grey walls are so calming.

Master bedroom
After recently redecorating our bedroom it’s swiftly moved to top position as my favourite room in the house! Inspired in part by the fabulous 1960s decor in “Mad Man” we choose the warm blue with crisp white trim and rich dark furniture.
Pride of place here goes to my DIY diamond tufted upholstered headboard.
